How the Symphony Operates

The Williamsport Symphony Orchestra is governed by a thirty-two-member Board of Trustees comprised of civic leaders from Williamsport and surrounding communities.

The administrative staff consists of a full-time executive director and a marketing coordinator.

The WSO currently includes approximately sixty musicians from Williamsport and numerous other central Pennsylvania communities. Their services are contracted on a per-concert basis, and additional musicians are recruited as needed.

Over the past seven years, the operating revenues of the WSO have increased by fifty percent (including a one hundred percent increase in contributions). At the same time, expenses have increased by forty-nine percent (including a fifty-six-percent increase in compensation for the conductor, musicians and guest artists).

Of the WSO’s expense budget, forty percent will be used to pay the music director, musicians, and guest artists. Another seventeen percent will go to concert production. Twelve percent will be used to support marketing, education and outreach activities, including orchestra travel. The balance, thirty-one percent of the budget, will fund basic administrative and support functions.

A complete Campaign information packet, including a listing of the Symphony's operating expenses and revenues, is available through:
