The WSO’s annual Free Family Concert is an invitation to children of all ages to enjoy a symphony concert integrated with opera, drama, and humor. Past guest artists have included Dan Kamin (“The Classical Clown”), the Penn State Opera Theatre Company, and the Hudson Vagabond Puppets, with Davy Jones (of the Monkees), performing Peter and the Wolf.
WSO guest artists are also available for artist residencies. For such, they engage in educational workshops and/or master classes with pre-qualified audiences. These may include, but are not limited to, preschools, regional school districts, universities, and colleges. Adult education programs are also incorporated as often as possible—often to service organizations, and occasionally to specific targeted groups. The resident artists demonstrate and teach, using their skills and expertise. Ever eager to share their knowledge in the creation of artistic projects, artists use media such as performance techniques, composition, introduction to the performing arts, and lectures. A residency may last for up to one week.
