Williamsport Symphony Youth Orchestra
Williamsport Symphony Youth Orchestra (WSYO) provides an educational and performance
medium for aspiring musicians. It was founded by Walt Straiton, who passed the baton to Rick Coulter. This adjunct to the WSO is now guest-directed by world-renowned conductor Christopher Para, who will conduct two concerts in the fall/winter and in the spring. The WSYO is perceived by its members as a very special opportunity--one in which the love of orchestral playing and the ability to do it well are nurtured at the highest possible level.
All talented young musicians (string, brass, woodwind, percussion) from middle school through college age are invited to audition.
membership audition and fee
At the audition, each musician will be evaluated for sightreading and will present two contrasting pieces of prepared music. There is a $50.00 annual membership fee (scholarship support
is available) per musician. Contact Valerie Whyman, WSO Executive Director (570-322-0227) for more information.
